Getting started is simple – no paperwork required. To complete your online company registration application, just have the following details ready:
Company name
Every company must have a unique name. We’ll help you check if the name you want is available. Keep in mind, a company name is different from a business name, though many businesses choose the same name for both.
Directors and company secretary
You’ll need to provide details of your directors, including their full name, residential address, and date of birth. You must appoint at least one director (though more directors can be appointed and it is common to appoint initially eg, 2 directors) and at least one director must live in Australia. If you have a company secretary, their details can be included too, noting that for private (proprietary limited) companies in Australia, there is no need to appoint a company secretary if you don't want to.
Shareholders
Decide who your shareholders will be – usually either individuals or companies – and provide their addresses. You’ll also need to confirm what type of shares they’ll hold (e.g. ordinary or preference shares) and how shares will be divided between them. Not sure where to start? We can guide you.
Registered office address
ASIC will send important company notices to this address. A PO Box isn’t allowed, but you can use a residential address. With permission, you can also use your accountant’s or solicitor’s address.
Principal place of business
This is the physical address of your business. For many people, it’s the same as their registered office.
